My January Makeup Capsule

I’m taking a break from my series on Harboring A Warm & Peaceful Home, because I wanted to share something a little different with you guys today. My makeup capsule for the month of January!

Last week I shared My January Capsule Wardrobe with you. Everyone knows capsule wardrobes are all the rage right now! But have you heard of the concept of a makeup capsule? I hadn’t until a few weeks ago. The concept is the same with makeup as with clothes: choose a few foundational items (no pun intended) and add a few fun accents you can mix and match all month long!

Why Create A Makeup Capsule?

A makeup capsule is essentially an even greater simplification of your regular makeup routine. If you have a lot of makeup, developing a tried and true routine makeup routine can:

  • Minimize the time you spend getting ready
  • Give you confidence with a look you know works every time
  • Motivate you to wear your makeup because of the simplicity of application
  • Make it easy to pack up your staples to take on the go

Now take all of those advantages of having a makeup routine and compound them by creating a makeup capsule!

The Foundation of My Makeup Capsule

These are a couple of my well-loved basics mixed in with a few other items.

  • I have used Maybelline Fit Me Powder for longer than I can remember. It is perfect for on-the-go touchups or to just throw on if I don’t feel like a full face of makeup–particularly for days I’m loafing around the house.
  • Mary Kay Primer left over from my days of dabbling in that business. It really is a good primer, but at this point I’m trying to use it up so I can start using a few other things I got from my Ipsy subscription last year.
  • Speaking of, the Smashbox Waterproof Concealer* is magical. I’m almost afraid to use it too fast cause it’s a formula I really love. And, being on a zero waste journey, I’m not sure yet if I will buy more in the future.
  • Finally, The absolute best thing in my makeup bag is the Dermablend Foundation. I first bought a tube of it to wear for my wedding day (almost 6 years ago) and have been a faithful customer ever since!

The Accents

So at this point my face is covered with the things I’ll be using every month and it’s time to add the fun stuff in!

I don’t in any way claim to be a real makeup enthusiast. I enjoy makeup, but I definitely don’t use all the proper brushes and techniques for application. So, you’ll find that my collection for January is fairly simple; actually it’s simple enough that everything I included fits in one small makeup bag. *Thumbs up for ease!*

This month, I included:

  • Vasanti contour eyeshadow brush*
  • Ciate eyeshadow in “Moondust”*
  • Pur Fully Charged mascara*
  • Kiss & Smink The Everything stick in “Tulum”*
  • Clinique lipstick in “Beach Pop”
  • Clean Perfume fragrance roller in “Skin”
  • Rodial Glamobrow eyebrow pencil* (FAVORITE MAKEUP ITEM OF ALL TIME)
  • Laritzy Cosmetics lipgloss in “Aura”*

(All items marked with * are samples/items I received in my Ipsy subscription last year.)

And that’s it! That’s all the makeup I’m wearing this month. It might be overly simplistic for the makeup lover, but if you’re a simple gal like me who just wants her face to not look so tired, it’s the perfect way to simplify your routine.

It has definitely made things easier for me having my entire face for the month in one bag, ready to go at a moment’s notice.

Here’s the capsule in it’s entirety:

  1. Exuviance products are amazing. I had heard about their products, but was a little turned off by their prices. I finally bit the bullet a few months ago and have zero regrets. I highly recommend Exuviance products.
    Love your blog.
