4 Steps To Creating A Cozy Night In

I’ve really got my hopes up for fall to get here soon. I’m hoping the summer heat wave will feel like a distant memory soon. On the coast, the leaves don’t really change colors—everything pretty much goes from green to dead. But, thankfully, I’m in my hometown for a while and the leaves are starting to change here. And even though it’s hot, there’s starting to come a gentle breeze.

When fall finally does make its appearance in NC, one of the things I’m looking forward to most is cozy nights in at home. We’ve recently been displaced from our home for a time because of Hurricane Florence. Which makes the prospect of cozy fall nights back home even MORE appealing.

But even if you haven’t recently been on the lam from a weather catastrophe, maybe you’ve just had a busy week, or maybe even just a busy day. And, like me, you know there’s nothing better than really putting your feet up and relaxing, enjoying your home and family, and allowing yourself to recuperate. Here’s a few ways to make the most of your cozy nights in.

Get Some New Jammies

The chillier weather means some snuggly pajamas will be needed. Believe it or not, I have a killer pair of flannel llama pajamas that I love when the weather gets cold.

Now, my husband—not a fan. So ehhhh, maybe he is right and I should invest in something a little more low-key for his sake. And I’ll save my trusty llamas for nights he has to work late. *Wink*

Some things you might consider when gearing up for the cozy nights to come:

  • Go with full length bottoms and a long sleeve top in the softest material you can find
  • Some fluffy socks or slippers
  • Maybe even a robe!

Voila! You’re completely kitted out for comfort!

Invest In Some Soft Blankets

Ok, I am really preaching to myself on this one. Our blanket collection is slightly heinous. I’m telling myself for the winter, it won’t hurt to invest in a couple soft blankets that are also not so unsightly.

Keep some thrown over the sofa for an extra layer of comfort, especially if you have a cold and sticky leather sofa. Sites like eBay have them in all colors, they wash well and last for a long time. It saves you from dragging your duvet down from downstairs when you want to relax on the sofa or have a Netflix marathon!

Light Some Candles

There’s nothing quite as good for setting the ambience for a cozy night in than with candles. So, I don’t even feel like I need to say this, but I digress. Seasonal fruits and warming spices are especially nice at this time of year. If you aren’t into candles, essential oils are also good. If you have a wax burner you can add them to it directly for an all natural fragrance. Another type of oil you could utilize for a cozy night in is CBD oil. If you haven’t heard of CBD oil, you can discover more about it here.

Prep Some Fall Food

The cherry on top: the hearty and warming foods that only the chilly nights can bring. Soups, stews, curries, casseroles, you name it. One of my go-tos when I know I’m going to have a night in with my husband is to search Pinterest for autumn recipes.

You could even use a slow cooker and cut the effort in half! Put the ingredients in the pot in the morning and simply leave them on low- by the evening you have a delicious home cooked meal to enjoy with minimal clean up! Pour yourself a hot chocolate, a coffee or a tea and sip it while you enjoy your evening. Bliss!
