February Favorites (2018)

Today I’m introducing a new series of monthly posts: Favorites!

At the end of each month I want to share a collection of things I’ve been loving with you. I’ve always enjoyed watching youtube videos and reading posts of this type.  So, I thought, why not start a series like this myself?

Let’s go! February favorites:

Ebook: How to Blog for Profit Without Selling Your Soul

I stumbled across this ebook by Ruth Soukup one day in January and downloaded it immediately on Amazon because it was a good price and I’ve been looking for some concise instructions on website growth. How To Blog For Profit Without Selling Your Soul did not disappoint!! I read the book in two days and highlighted countless practical applications. So many hidden gems. If you are in or looking to get into the business of blogging, I can’t recommend this book enough.

The best part is that Ruth skips all the generally unnecessary rudiments of initial blog creation and jumps right into growth, profit, and administrative advice.

I also hopped on the waiting list for her famous Elite Blog Academy course. You can check out more awesome stuff from Ruth on her website Living Well, Spending Less.

The Black & Decker Dust Buster

This one seems unexpected, not to mention maybe even a little silly! But, seriously, guys, I have used this thing like no other. My husband bought it for me for Christmas and I was a little perturbed at first at the notion of having received a household cleaning tool as a gift (anyone familiar with the blender scene from Father of the Bride??)

But, ah! I was too quick to judge. It has made clean up so easy after mealtimes. My toddler is obsessed with throwing, crunching, and crumbling every food object within his reach and this Black & Decker Dust Buster has all but completely eliminated the stress of it. I even taught him to use it and, if I’m lucky, he will sometimes clean up his own messes after dinner. No joke. It’s hilarious.

EKOBO Biobu Bambino Kids’ Dishes

Speaking of mealtime messes, another Christmas gift we received, this time from my in-laws, was this set of toddler dishes. These Biobu dishes by EKOBO are made of bamboo and very durable. Plus, I just love the look of them! I’ve never been a fan of how tacky children’s accessories tend to be, so these are just perfect and I definitely have plans to buy more.

Swapping Food Photos with Family

This has been going on for what seems like months now, but I had to share. My family (my parents, sister, brother-in-law, myself and my husband) has an ongoing group text where we share any and everything that’s going on. One of our favorite things to do is swap food photos–specifically what’s on the plate for dinner! Here’s a few of our latest food photo ops:

My mom’s mushroom stroganoff with pan-fried brussels sprouts
My sister’s broccoli cheddar soup in a homemade bread bowl
My curried spinach with peanut butter cream & maple cinnamon roasted sweet potatoes

The Complete Book of Clean by Toni Hammersley

If you’ve been reading Huntress At Home since the new year, you know one of my goals for 2018 is to work my way through The Complete Book of Clean. Although I’m working at a slower pace than I’d intended, I’m loving how beautifully the book reads. I love the visual appeal of the book, the way it’s organized, and the simplicity of it.

If you are looking for a way to systematically get your home in shape from top to bottom, I highly recommend working through this book. I’m excited to hopefully work through her other book, The Complete Book  of Home Organization when I finish my clean sweep.

You can check out more of Toni’s awesome tips on her website A Bowl Full of Lemons.

Food: Organic Minneolas

A really obscure type of orange, if you ask me. I had never heard of minneolas before they started showing up in my weekly Produce Box delivery. Apparently they are in season and my tummy is saying thank you.

These oranges are bell shaped and have SO much flavor. They are super juicy, have almost no membrane to fight with (like your typical orange), and peel as easily as a clementine. I seriously am obsessed and am crossing my fingers they stay in season for months to come!!

YouTube Channel: Mina Rome

Speaking of food, I’m super conservative when it comes to subscriptions, but Mina Rome is one YouTube channel I absolutely adore and don’t hesitate to share with you! *segueseguesegue*

If you are into healthy living–especially vegan/plant-based eating–she will have you in the palm of her hand with shots of her beautiful food. I’m still trying to figure out how everything she eats is so attractive! Suddenly, I’ve never been so excited to eat something as seemingly dull as peas and rice. Fruit has never looked so enticing. Even a tin foil wrapped street burrito in the hands of Mina becomes a magical food adventure.

My Paper Geek Co. Traveler’s Notebook Cover

In a recent post I wrote about this traveler’s notebook cover and how I’m using it to house my war book. The cover has four elastic loops inside, which can hold up to eight notebooks. Mine currently has four, but I would like to add two more.

I really can’t recommend Paper Geek Co. enough! This leather cover is so sleek and beautiful. Be sure to check out their Etsy shop!

Be Fine Exfoliating Cleanser from My Ipsy Glam Bag

I’ve received two of my year’s worth of Ipsy glam bags, and I’ve been thrilled with both so far! But, I am more of a skin care junkie than an actual makeup fan (though I’m trying to learn to be). So, by far, my favorite product has been the Be Fine Exfoliating Cleanser. It is made with brown sugar so it smells awesome, and it’s so so gritty. Like scrubbing your face with sugary beach sand!

Vegan: The Cookbook by Jean-Christian Jury

You can read more about how we recently adopted a plant-based lifestyle here. One tool that I have been loving through this transition has been my Jean-Christian Jury Vegan cookbook!! It has opened my eyes to so many vegan options. Not only that, but I’ve learned the art of the simple meal as I’ve been cooking my way through this cookbook

The cookbook features vegan cuisine from all over the world–another fun part of using it! We’ve tried food from Mexico to Myanmar and South Africa to Germany. It has definitely been an adventure that pulled me out of the Pinterest recipes rut.

Tell me what you’ve been into this month!

I started this post series because I love sharing ideas and favorites! I’m hoping you’ll find something useful and worth trying among my lists. Now it’s your turn! What products, foods, services, books, etc. have you been falling for this month? I would love to hear from you!

  1. Great post! A couple of recipes that I’ve been loving this month are falafel wraps and buffalo cauliflower quesadillas. I made each of them a few times during the month of Feb. Looking forward to your March favs.
