New Year’s Goals For 2018

The week after Christmas is my favorite time of year. I would almost venture to say it’s more exciting for me than Christmas itself. That’s because I spend the entire week making elaborate New Year’s goals and plans of action.

In 2017, minimalism was my focus, and this year is only slightly different. You can check out what my minimalist goals were last year here. I didn’t accomplish as many things as I had hoped to in 2017 due to my year long battle with postpartum anxiety and depression, but I’m thankful to say these last few weeks have brought some much-needed relief. I don’t know if I’m in the clear yet, but a break over the holidays has been more than a blessing.

Let’s get into some goals for 2018!

How I Set My Goals

Now, I know all the books say to work on one habit at a time, but I just get too excited to work that slowly. For me, a new year means a chance to totally make over myself and my lifestyle. I like to dive in head first and hope that most of it sticks.

About half of my goals from 2017 rolled over to this year. As I mentioned, I just wasn’t able to make as much happen because of debilitating anxiety. But this year I’m prepared because I’ve learned how to work despite my feelings instead of letting them dictate what I’m able to accomplish. However, PLOT TWIST, a new little fella will be joining the family around the end of February, so I will probably have to start from scratch yet again when he gets here. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.

Over the last couple of years, I organized my whole life into 10 color-coded categories and everything I do or plan to do is filed accordingly. For 2018, I set 3 goals per life category, plus I tacked 3 extra ones on in an “Other” category. I’ve denoted goals that rolled over from 2017 with an asterisk!

  1. Make my bed every day which is something I used to do and then fell out of the habit.

Exercise every day. I am trying to go to the Y every day to work out. If I can’t get there I will do stretches at home and maybe buy some light hand weights.

Floss my teeth daily. I have a sore place in my mouth I need to keep clean.
